Bedouin tent: how to use it to create an exclusive corner

The classic gazebo, perhaps embellished with tarpaulins; a shade sail, perhaps coloured. Of solutions to make original a corner of one's own garden There are a lot of them, but all of them are a bit ’already seen“, if only because of the amount of images we have seen in magazines, on television and... in our friends” gardens - or our own!

If you are looking for an original solution to set up a part of your garden, a Bedouin tent could be what you are looking for. Maybe you don't know what it is, maybe you've heard about it but have never looked into it, in any case it's time to get to know this very original marquee from the outside more closely.

What is a Bedouin tent?

Let's start with the basics: do you know what a Bedouin tent is? It is a tent that takes its name from the Bedouin people, who live a semi-nomadic life practising pastoralism. These people, in Asia and North Africa, move around with their livestock throughout the year, making more or less long journeys and thus regularly relocating.

Dwelling that consists of a tent that is very original in structure and appearance: it is one big sheet (sometimes made by sewing several sheets together), supported by poles and ropes, which can be opened or closed on one or more sides if necessary. This flexible setup allows you to shelter from the sun and heat, but also, at night or when it is windy, to enclose yourself inside the tent and enjoy some warmth.

The Bedouin tent, like all other types of tents, is higher in the centre and slopes down on the sides. The cover can be pulled down to the ground or be stopped at a certain height to allow effective ventilation under the tent.

Why is a Bedouin tent better than a gazebo?

There are several reasons why a Bedouin tent is a more appropriate choice than a gazebo if you want to create a truly exclusive corner in their own garden.

  1. Style and originalityThe Bedouin tent is truly something never seen, or almost never seen. Thanks to its very special, minimalist and elegant design, it immediately catches the eye
  2. AdaptabilityBy virtue of its structure, made of elastic fabric, poles and cables, the Bedouin tent adapts to any type of terrain, whether flat or sloping. Moreover, it anchors firmly to the ground and does not fly away like, alas, many tents on the market.
  3. FlexibilityWhen you get tired of a configuration, or if the need arises for more or less coverage from the sun and/or wind, you can change the shape of the Bedouin tent without too much difficulty
  4. Summer and winter: the ability to open fully and close almost completely allows the Bedouin tent to adapt to the seasons
  5. Waterproofness: Bedouin tents are absolutely waterproof and offer effective shelter from UV rays and wind

How to furnish and decorate a Bedouin tent

The freedom that a Bedouin tent offers is unparalleled when it comes to garden furniture: you can freely dispose of the space you have chosen, since you will decide how many posts use to hold the tent and whether to make sloping the sides of the tent.

As already mentioned, the configuration of the tent is up to you; you should therefore think first about what you want to achieve. Here are some ideas for using your Bedouin tent in the garden:

  • Relaxation/conversation corner: with a deckchair, pouf, chaise longue or a sofa. If you want to be inspired by Bedouin atmospheres, make room for floor mats and large, comfortable cushions

  • Aperitif zone: if your passion is aperitifs in fine weather, you can leave the Bedouin tent open on all sides and arrange comfortable seating, a few low tables and a bar cabinet under it

  • Lunch/dinner area: The Bedouin tent can become the perfect cover for lunches and dinners in the garden, so that you can eat outside in peace whatever the weather conditions. Set up your area with a nice table and chairs for all guests

  • Fun Tent: why not think about an outdoor entertainment space for summer evenings? You can set up your tent with a TV screen and comfortable seating and complete it with a quality sound system to organise dance evenings or small concerts.
